Bonds per Stitch — Quilted Dialogues on Home, Displacement, and Shared Authorship
Bonds per Stitch extends the inquiry on co-creation processes from traditional Indian hand quilting to contemporary social fabric. The project uses materiality, memories, and making as entry points for conversations with women with migration histories. Through one-on-one 'quilt talks' with me, participants shared their stories and we built emotional connections, creating bonds per stitch in both a literal and metaphorical sense. As artist and facilitator, I communicated through texture, smell, and touch, emphasizing active listening, flexibility, and mutual respect. The project redefined dialogue—both in form and content—as a space of care & inclusivity.

Each Quilt talk culminates in a formal visual dialogue of two quilted pieces:
• One quilt is created by the participant, expressing her lived experience, memories, and longings.
• The second is a response quilt, created by me—shaped by the depth of our shared conversation and my reflections on the layered subjectivities of what it means to build a sense of home in unfamiliar lands.
Together, these paired works form a co-authored textile narrative—one that honors difference, reciprocity, and mutual recognition. participants of project Bonds per stitch — Mo chen, Regina Kelly, Ijlal yunsi, Neyde Lanyter, Linnemore Nefdt
